Just to make it clear in advance: As I am definitely not an expert in terms of Sludge, I am approaching this review self-conciously in a rather genre-unspecific way. Let‘s see how it goes. “Forgive me father for I have sinned…“

„Stoned Rotten Roll“ says it all. Those are the three words that are hidden in the band‘s facebook link describing SORE‘s music best. The trio from Italy plays a decent mix of rough riffs and raw drums. Garage sound? Yes – but it is faraway from common garage rock – it‘s rather like „Motörhead meets down tuned guitars and hardcore-like guttural vocals in a garage“.

Of course, it‘s a demo tape. This is what the cover already tells you. But for a demo the mix is pretty good. It‘s like a very rumbling punch in your face without sounding too muddy. Well done!
Although the bandname on the cover reminds me of one of those black metal bands whose name you can‘t really read, the rest of the artwork hits the nail on the head. The police is being sandwiched by two trucks in the name of „Stoned Rotten Roll“. There isn‘t any better picture really that underlines this record. Unfortunately, you don‘t understand that much in terms of the lyrics, but the tracklist itself including „Terrorizer“, „Church of Speed“ or „Take it or leave it“ makes you wanna listen to it instantly. I had a blast, Ale Em All (Haha, what a wordplay for the connoisseurs in thrash metal), Betto and Fabbro!

This tremendous groove part in the song „Take it or leave it“ starting at around 01:36 min.? Fuck yeah! That‘s Rock ‘n‘ Roll to the finest. Say hello to Peter Pan Speedrock and Motörhead! BEN BLADDI SOMMER

Vorab: Da ich definitiv kein Experte im Sludge bin, gehe ich bewusst mit einem eher Genre-fremden Blick an diese CD Rezension heran. Mal schauen, was dabei rumkommt. “Forgive me father for I have sinned…“

„Stoned Rotten Roll“ trifft‘s ganz gut. Diese drei Wörter sind im Facebook-Link der Band versteckt und beschreiben die Musik von SORE am Besten. Das Trio aus Italien spielt feinsten Mix aus rotzigen Riffs & roughen Drums. Garagensound, ja – aber längst kein abgedroschener Garagen-Rock – eher ein „Motörhead trifft auf tiefer gestimmte Gitarren und Hardcore-lastige, gutturale Vocals in einer Garage“-Sound.

Ja, es ist ein Demo-Tape, was das CD-Cover bereits hergibt. Aber für ein Demo ist es sehr amtlich abgemischt. Es drückt wo es drücken soll ohne zu sehr matschig zu klingen. Rumpelt ordentlich.
Der Schriftzug der Band lässt eher an einer der Black Metal Bands erinnern, deren Namen man gar nicht oder nur schwer entziffern kann. Dafür passt der Rest des Artworks zur Musik wie Arsch auf Eimer. Die Polizei wird Sandwich genommen von zwei LKWs des „Stoned Rotten Roll“. Eine bessere Verbildlichung von Musik gibt es in diesem Fall nicht.
Die Texte versteht man leider nur schwer, aber allein die Songtitel wie „Terrorizer“, „Church of Speed“ oder „Take it or leave it“ machen schon Lust auf‘s feucht-fröhliche Reinhören. Macht Bock, Ale Em All (Haha ; Geiles Wortspiel für die Kenner unter uns in Sachen Thrash Metal), Betto and Fabbro!

Der herrliche Groove-Teil im Song „Take it or leave it“ beginnend bei Minute 01:36? Fuck yeah! Das ist Rock ‘n‘ Roll vom Feinsten. Peter Pan Speedrock und Motörhead lassen grüßen! BEN BLADDI SOMMER
